Amazon was formed in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. The company initially started as an online marketplace for books but later expanded to sell electronics, software, video games, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry.
To help the buyer determine the seller's integrity and product quality, Amazon added buyer reviews to each product... but nearly every good thing is followed by some bad. Below are a few ways to determine authentic Amazon reviews from fakes.
|
1
One of the first things to look for is an over positive or over negative review.
An over positive review might suggest that the seller has purchased positive reviews. Yes, you can purchase reviews... and it's very easy.
An over negative review might be a competitor. Look for details in the review. If the review is very short (eg. Terrible seller!!! buyer beware!), don't take a lot of stock in that review.

2
Next, look for the "Verified Purchase" label in the review. This will tell you if Amazon confirmed that the reviewer actually purchased the item they are reviewing.
|
3
Next, clock on the name of the reviewer. Make sure the person that submitted the review has written other reviews. If you discover that this reviewer hasn't written any other reviews or have only written a few other vague reviews, be sceptical.
|
4
Also, make sure the person hasn't submitted a lot of reviews in a short period of time. If a reviewer is being paid to write reviews, they may have written a large number of short, 5-star reviews in just a few days (or less).

And last, analyze the reviews on ReviewMeta. This online service rates how reliable reviews are for each product page.
To analyze the reviews, paste the web address of the product in the ReviewMeta input box.
