How to detect fake:

Apple AirPods & Charging Case

AirPods are wireless Bluetooth earbuds created by Apple. They were first released on December 13, 2016.

In addition to playing audio, AirPods feature a built-in microphone that filters out background noise, which allows taking phone calls and talking to Apple's digital assistant, Siri.

As all other Apple products, counterfeits are soon to follow. Below are a few steps to determine if your AirPods are real or fake.

The first thing to look for is overall quality. If you notice any obvious quality issues, it's probably fake.

Next, look at the shape of the microphone. It should be an oval shape like the one on the left. If it is round, or just slightly oval shape, it's fake.

Next, click the "sync" button. It should be a smooth click that is very quiet. Many of the fakes are quite loud and have a very distinct clicking feel to them.

Next, look at the lightning port. It should have a thin outline on the port frame. Notice the fake on the right looks very different from the real one.

Next, you need to weigh the case and AirPods together. As shown above, they should weigh right at 46 grams combined. Many of the fakes weigh much less.

Next, make sure there is a magnetic hold to fix AirPods in place inside the case.

Last but the most conclusive way to determine if they are real is to check the serial number with apple. Go here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ and enter your number to verify that the number is authentic.

Note: If the counterfeiters have used a real number, it will still show up as authentic.
