The PlayStation 4 was launched on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe, South America and Australia. Since then a growing number of counterfeit goods, in the PS4 name, have entered the market. Below are a few steps to identify fake Playstation 4 Controllers.

1
The first thing to look for is overall quality. There should be no misalignment issues, jagged edges or sticking buttons.
|
2
Next, look at the box. Look at every word and make sure everything is spelled correctly. You also need to inspect the box for words in other languages, as shown on the fake above.
|
3
Next, charge your controller. When your charger is plugged in or on the charging dock, it will light up. The real ones will stay lit while they are charging. Many of the fakes will lite up and then turn off after a few seconds. They are still charging but the light turns off.
|
4
Next, look at the buttons. Many of the fakes have button outlines much thicker than the genuine PS4.
|
5
Next, check both of the analog stick movements. Make sure they move freely and return back to the exact same spot each time. If they don't, you may have a fake.
|
6
Next, feel the analog stick pads. They should feel soft, not rigid. Many of the fakes are made of plastic.
|
7
Next, while using the PS4 system, press the buttons. The system should react to each button press without excessive pressure. They also should not stick going down or back up. If your controller has any of these problems, it's probably fake.
|
8
Next, shake your controller while right side up and up side down. Many of the fakes will have parts floating around that you can hear. If you do hear anything, it may be fake.
|
9
And last, check the button height. Some fakes have very high buttons. They should look like the buttons above.
